Straight Razor Box
thingiverse
When I was a kid, some 35-40 years ago, a carpenter gave me a wooden box that men used to hide their straight razors from children back when safety razors didn't exist. By the late 80's, the box had dried out and warped badly, so I took a picture of it and threw it out. Now it's 2016, and I have a 3D-printer, so I thought I'd make one updated for the 21st century. The fit is still a bit off, but it works, and I'll take a break from this project because it's been long in making, and I want to do something else. I found the totem model on Pinshape.com - https://pinshape.com/items/15175-3d-printed-totem-keychain-pencil-holder - as long as it hides the groove in the lid, feel free to add something else! Print Settings: Printer: Zortrax m200 Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.190mm Infill: Yes, the least amount possible I printed the final model in black PETG because it's the last spool of filament I have; otherwise, it would have been much prettier. How to assemble the box: This is the finished look you're going for. At first, glue together the "wedge_1.stl" and the "totem.stl," making sure that the narrow part of the wedge is glued onto the totem. Set aside to harden. Put the lower lid "llid.stl" on top of the box, making sure that the locking feature is engaged. Add the upper lid "ulid.stl," fixing it in place with a screw, and then try to fit "wedge_2.stl" through the hole in the upper lid. Regarding screws and the fit of "wedge_2.stl": I don't really like the screw, but a printed vertical pin with a diameter of 4 mm is very fragile. So for now, I recommend a wood screw, and when it's in place, put a drop of epoxy glue on top of its head to stop easy access to the box's contents. If the blocking wedge is too thick to fit through the hole easily, sand it down half a mm. Now, slide the totem onto the groove in the lower lid all the way in, then slide the upper lid in place. Slide the totem into place, locking the box, and you are done!
