I needed a precise and symmetrical helmet with crisp, sharp edges, that could be printed without any supports. This piece is intended for wearability. Print Settings Printer: Anet A8 Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: .3mm Infill: 25 Notes: Printed with brims at .3mm layer height in PLA. Good bed adhesion is crucial, as these large pieces lean significantly. Several external issues arose, but considerable post-print work will be necessary to complete this piece. Some print problems occurred due to warping of the larger parts, which can be resolved using epoxy filler and sanding. Post-Printing Friction welding parts together. Filling with epoxy filler and sanding to eliminate model facets. Welded pieces appear strong, and most work will focus on sanding and repeating the filler surface process. How I Designed This Extensive remodelling from various source files occurred using 3ds max. A set of smoothing groups was built, then mesh smoothed everything with these to tessellate the surface while maintaining sharp corners. The inside was extruded, and all faces were relaxed to create an internal surface that supports the structure. The entire piece was sliced into radial sections to facilitate support-free printing.
