Storm Safe VAWT

Storm Safe VAWT

I wanted to design a vertical axis wind turbine that you could simply setup and forget about as it generates power. If a storm happens to come by that would otherwise over-spin a turbine and threaten its integrity, the centrifugal force of the turbine spinning will close the blades into a drum. Due to this, the turbine can only go so fast. There is no need to lock the turbine down during a storm because there is no danger of the turbine spinning too fast and frying circuits or parts breaking from excessive centrifugal force. This is a first draft of my design (hence some parts are very roughly made). Plus this is my first attempt at actually creating something via CAD modeling (which I am teaching myself to do). I still need to design in a way to spring-load the regulator. Plus there are other things that are making me consider doing a full redesign.
