Stool-T
thingiverse
Human is crafting Stool-T out of numerous components, connected by tiny pieces. This structure can be rearranged to form various patterns, just like the popular puzzle game "Tetris". Each component's shape is identical to those seen in "Tetris", comprising I, J, L, O, S, Z, and T shapes. This creation was made as an entry for the Tenkaizu Budokai stool contest on Tumblr: http://f-labo.tumblr.com/post/127462448125/tenkaiz...http://f-labo.tumblr.com/post/127064396215/tenkaiz... Base materials include a maximum of two sheets of MDF (2.5mm, 1820 × 910mm), in accordance with contest rules. Tools employed: laser cutting machine (Trotec Speedy 300) Software used: Blocks/Rhino and Grasshopper > Illustrator Binding pieces/Rhino > Illustrator Because of material restrictions, each block is set to 4cm. Scale via Grasshopper parameters. Adding more or larger blocks results in a more interesting outcome. One sheet is divided into four maximum-work-size sheets (730 x 437mm) and one sheet (730 x 179mm), referred to as "hazaiA". For this stool, the following number of sheets were cut according to drawings: stool-T_A.ai: 4 max-work-size sheets stool-T_B.ai: 2 max-work-size sheets stool-T_C.ai: 1 max-work-size sheet stool-T_hazaiA12.ai: two patterns using hazaiA sheets Optional components include backside covers for storing leftover blocks: stool-T_A_waku.ai: remaining material from stool-T_A.ai (one) stool-T_C_waku.ai: remaining material from stool-T_C.ai (one) Parts list attached for personal reference (Japanese): "stool-T_PartsList_0926.pdf" Assembly steps Step 1: cut out block and binding pieces Cut seven shapes of blocks. Also, cut four types of binding components. - long supporting member underneath top surface blocks of stool (#1) - binding members of side wall blocks (#2) - overlocking parts of #2 on side walls (#3) - overlocking parts of #1 under top surface blocks (#4) Step 2: assemble blocks Assemble 63 individual blocks. Step 3: construct the side walls Construct four side walls with binding components #2 and #3. Step 4: build two wall structures Construct two walls from Step 3, using binding components #2 and #3. Step 5: create the third wall structure Before building the third wall, insert binding parts #1 into holes on top blocks. Then, construct the third wall. Step 6: complete side wall and add the top structure Finish the fourth side wall by constructing it. Top components are attached with binding component #4. Stool-T is now complete! Step 7 (optional assembly): Two bottom covers can be inserted between binding components #2 and #3, if desired, for backside storage.
