Ganesha emerges as the offspring of Shiva, one of the three pivotal Hindu deities, and Parvati, goddess of love, fertility, and devotion. As a youngster, Ganesha prevented his father from encountering his mother Parvati during her bath. Consequent to this, Shiva severed his son's head. Witnessing Parvati in distress over their son's demise, Shiva agreed to revive the boy with the head of the first person he encountered - in this instance an elephant, thereby bestowing Ganesha with an elephantine visage. The most widely revered deity in India today, Ganesha embodies prosperity and joy. He frequently manifests as a stout little boy, vibrant and active, clutching sweets within his hands and trunk.
