This carved skull is a remnant of a sandstone tomb slab found in St Andrews Cathedral. Its edges are roughly finished, with two faces broken off. The backside of the stone is flat and boasts a shallow L-shaped groove, clearly intended to secure it snugly into place beside other stonework.
