Dr. Matt Brueseke from Kansas State University donates a hand sample of the Stockdale Kimberlite to the WVU petrology collection. Visible in this sample are white clasts that have likely been transformed into serpentine as a result of replacing olivine. The largest white clasts may originally have consisted of dunite or peridotite xenoliths, whose olivine has since undergone alteration. The dull green groundmass represents altered kimberlite. This image was prepared and uploaded by Trevor Byers, with final touches added by Graham Andrews.
