Created by a brilliant scientist, considered an evil genius, called Jumba Jookiba, with the sole purpose of destroying, he is therefore sentenced to exile on a desert asteroid. Fortunately, Stitch (initially called Experiment 626) will be able to break free from captivity and escape aboard an emergency ship. Arrived accidentally on Earth, and more precisely in the Hawaiian archipelago, he will be hit by a convoy of trucks, being then taken to the kennel apparently dying. Lilo will adopt it, mistaking it for a dog (after appropriate changes made by Stitch himself, such as making two of his four arms, his antennae and his dorsal quills disappear). From here the adventures of the two begin, after which the alien will understand that he is far beyond a simple instrument of destruction, becoming fond of Lilo and becoming part of her family. He will become little Lilo's best friend and playmate.
