A steel and brass constructed animated Stirling engine features movable pistons, cylinders, and a flywheel. This non-temperature Stirling engine operates by cyclically compressing and expanding air or gas at different temperatures, converting heat energy to mechanical work. It is a closed-cycle regenerative heat engine with a permanently gaseous working fluid, characterized by the use of a regenerator for efficient heat exchange. Conceived in 1816 as an alternative to steam engines, its practical applications were primarily limited to low-power domestic uses for over a century.
