It also had a more compact design than a standard battle rifle, with a quicker rate of fire and a shorter range of several hundred meters. The StG 44 proved to be highly effective in its role, particularly on the Eastern Front, where it provided a significantly increased volume of fire compared to standard infantry rifles. The 7.92×33mm Kurz cartridge was specifically designed for use in the Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle and was developed using blueprints. It is also referred to as the 7.9mm Kurz or 8×33 Polte, and was intended to serve as a compromise between the longer 7.92×57mm rifle cartridge and the 9×19mm Parabellum pistol rounds. This intermediate cartridge is known for its unique characteristics and was specifically designed to meet the needs of the Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle.
