Shine a point light source (like the one on your phone) at the apex of the sphere and watch as the shadow forms a perfect grid on the surface below. Be warned that it takes a very long time to render in OpenSCAD, and if you want the preview to work at more than 1fps then I'd recommend switching to "Thrown Together" view mode by either pressing F12 or going to the view tab at the top and switching to it.
