Stepper to Camera - Universal mounting plates
thingiverse
A set of 5mm shaft adapters and low profile modular dovetail plates enable attaching various cameras to a NEMA 17 Stepper Motor. This system aims to create a single-axis gyro stabilized mount for standard cameras with adjustable lens axis alignment. The 90-degree dovetails facilitate easy adjustments. Driven by Derek Leiber's gyro mount, the design accommodates small DSLRs and can be used for other purposes like automated panoramas. NEMA11/17 stepper motors offer extra torque, but 400-step motors may require geared-down adapters due to jerky movements. The first draft of the 5mm shaft adapter is available, with updates on dovetails and motor mount designs. Male and female dovetail plates are joined using epoxy glue and filament snips as indexing and strengthening lugs, allowing two-axis adjustment. Future improvements include a hollow to house an M3 nut for lockdown via grub screw. Dovetails benefit from printing without bottom infill for better epoxy grip.
