Let's fix this hot running motor with some TLC. First, I'll attach a 40mm fan directly to the motor using sturdy zip ties to hold it firmly in place. With this addition, my stepper motor temperatures dropped dramatically from 80 degrees Celsius to a cool 40 degrees Celsius - quite an impressive cooling feat. The smaller NEMA 17 stepper motors can also benefit from this modification.
