My teacher, René Lavaggi, was an extraordinary artist who taught me the techniques passed down through his family for generations. His grandfather Hugo worked tirelessly on the iconic Lincoln Memorial, leaving behind a lasting legacy. René was a man who lived life to the fullest – he could speak multiple languages, strummed the mandolin with ease, and was known for whipping up mouth-watering pasta dishes with pesto sauce after long days of stone carving. As we'd sit around sipping wine, discussing our latest creations, and savoring René's delectable cuisine, I felt like I'd found my tribe. Though René is no longer with us, his spirit still resonates deeply within me – especially when my hands move over the stone, bringing to life new forms and designs that he would surely be proud of.
