Step Well / Tower - Positive Form Negative Space
thingiverse
This unique design was inspired by ancient step wells in South Asia, traditionally used to collect rainwater. The Step Well object reinterprets this concept by combining both positive and negative components created through laser cutting each layer. The Step Well model is made from 3mm birch plywood and showcases a stepped form. However, due to slight imperfections during assembly, the positive tower does not fit perfectly within the negative part as it should. This is evident in the bulging glue and imperfect alignment of stacked pieces. To address this issue, the positive tower has been placed on top of the lid, concealing the space below until removed. The attached SketchUp file provides a detailed model of the Step Well, utilizing Scenes to display its component parts for easy 2D laser cutting file export. With some adjustments, this model can also be adapted for 3D printing.
