Steno key tops for Cherry MX switches
thingiverse
This is a set of key tops that converts a regular Cherry MX-based keyboard into a steno keyboard. Then that board can be used with Plover software to turn your computer into a stenography machine. The set consists of two different variants: one has a stem placed right at the middle and another has it moved 4.9 mm sideways. To convert a regular staggered board, you will need 13 pairs of staggered keys and 5 pairs of straight ones. The picture shows a Let's Split, PCB-based orthogonal keyboard with keytops installed. The keys under the middle and ring fingers use straight keytops, while those under index, pinky, and thumb fingers are staggered. This makes finger movements shorter and pressing two or more keys at once much easier. These same keytops fit regular Cherry-MX style switches. I don't have a standard keyboard to show them on now, so I used the split one instead. It's actually used in this form at one of my workplaces. The previous version required filing around the stem, but this one is almost ready right from the press. The prior versions were also a bit too flimsy, with small quirks and knots appearing in the middle when the top surface got disturbed. I've made these new ones thicker to contain any issues that might arise, ensuring that working surfaces are smooth and nice.
