Stele to the orant
sketchfab
Stele to an unknown supplicant, a relic from 7th century CE, crafted from limestone. Located in Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels). Captured with precision by CapturingReality. This enigmatic figure, viewed from the front, presents his head encircled and palms lifted in a gesture of devotion. His long tunic is adorned with crosses inscribed within a circle. The Christian theme of the orante in Egypt has its roots in the Greco-Roman era, where it frequently appears on stelae at Kom Abou Bilou.
