'Stekelvarken S3' Kazemat (Dutch WWII bunker)
sketchfab
Three-dimensional model of a Dutch bunker type S3 'stekelvarken', or 'porcupine'. This design dates back to 1939, featuring one light machine gun positioned in any one of three hatches. The other two could be sealed off with an imposing steel door, two centimeters thick. Thick reinforced concrete formed the walls of this bunker, measuring eighty centimeters deep. In the days leading up to World War II, a total of 763 such bunkers were constructed in the Netherlands. The S3 bunkers proved vulnerable during Germany's May 1940 invasion due to their relatively thin walls and large gun openings.
