Steinway East River LIRR Tunnel Portal Entrance Horseshoe Section
thingiverse
I designed this to a precise scale from the cross-section drawings I had to painstakingly locate. Fascinating insights into the history behind this tunnel emerged during my research. The tunnel stretches from Long Island to Grand Central Terminal. Initially, I was determined to create the entire tunnel from LI to Penn Station but unfortunately, I couldn't find any relevant topographical information. It's designed specifically for the M7 trains on the Long Island Rail Road, so not every train will fit through it. This limitation holds true when scaling it down to N, HO, G, O, S, or any other scale you choose to work with. Not all model trains will pass through this tunnel comfortably. Of course, you can always scale it up but it won't remain entirely prototypical. This is the Horseshoe section of the tunnel, and I'm eager to proceed with modeling the cast iron tube section next. Underneath the East River, two distinct designs caught my attention that I wasn't aware of previously.
