This model complements the Visible Interactive Pachycephalosaur website on the WitmerLab at Ohio University site: http://bit.ly/2ekqtpO. The specimen is the skull of the pachycephalosaurian dinosaur Stegoceras validum (UALVP 2), collected from the Dinosaur Park Formation in Alberta, Canada, and housed at the University of Alberta. The skull was thoroughly examined with microCT scans conducted at UTCT in Austin, Texas. All intricate details were segmented using Avizo software; 3D visualization took place in Maya. Ryan Ridgely expertly isolated the brain endocast, inner ear, olfactory turbinates, and other delicate features, while digitally stripping away rock matrix from the nasal cavity. James Nassif carefully segmented each individual bone. Following this, Ridgely skillfully assembled the animation in Maya and uploaded it to Sketchfab. Our team published significant findings on this specimen in 2014 through an article by Jason Bourke, Ruger Porter, Ryan Ridgely, Tyler Lyson, Emma Schachner, Phil Bell, and Lawrence Witmer (http://bit.ly/1p5x0Ip). This research received funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation grants awarded to Witmer and Ridgely.
