<p>The device is a small, independently rotating knob (similar to a U.S. classic <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door_handle">door knob</a>) facing the driver that is securely mounted on the outside rim of a steering wheel. The protruding knob is an aftermarket accessory. The free rotation is intended to help make steering with one hand easier or faster. Brodie knobs were popular on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truck">trucks</a> and tractors before the advent of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_steering">power steering</a>.</p><p>Though Brodie knobs are legal on private vehicles in most U.S. states, it is not recommended and in some countries and states they may be illegal.&nbsp;</p><p>To comply with federal regulations, the spinner knob must be installed on the inside of the steering wheel because if installed on the outside, it's possible your clothing could catch on the knob and interfere with safe operation of the vehicle.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>USE 8MM BOLT, NYLON NUT AND WASHER. KNOB MUST BE ABLE TO SPIN FREELY ON BRACKET.</p>
