Fiat 128 Steering Mechanism Assembly 1. Disconnect the battery to prevent accidental engine start-up during repair. 2. Remove the front wheel on the driver's side by loosening the lug nuts with a wrench and raising the vehicle with a jack until the wheel is off the ground. 3. Remove the caliper from the rotor by unscrewing the bolts that hold it in place, then slide the caliper off towards the rear of the vehicle. 4. Remove the ABS sensor wire connector to prevent damage during repair. 5. Remove the steering gear box mounting bolts with a socket wrench and remove the box itself. 6. Remove the tie rod end from the steering gear box by pulling it straight out with a tool. 7. Remove the drag link from the steering gear box by loosening the nut that holds it in place and sliding it off towards the rear of the vehicle. 8. Remove the idler arm from the steering gear box by unscrewing the bolt that holds it in place, then slide the arm out towards the front of the vehicle. 9. Remove the pitman arm from the steering gear box by loosening the nut that holds it in place and sliding it off towards the rear of the vehicle. 10. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts with a socket wrench and remove the pump itself. 11. Remove the reservoir hose from the power steering pump to prevent fluid loss during repair. 12. Remove the return hose from the power steering pump to prevent fluid loss during repair. 13. Drain the power steering fluid from the system by opening the reservoir cap and allowing the fluid to drain out. 14. Remove the power steering rack mounting bolts with a socket wrench and remove the rack itself. 15. Remove the tie rod end from the steering gear box by pulling it straight out with a tool. 16. Remove the drag link from the steering gear box by loosening the nut that holds it in place and sliding it off towards the rear of the vehicle. 17. Remove the idler arm from the steering gear box by unscrewing the bolt that holds it in place, then slide the arm out towards the front of the vehicle. 18. Remove the pitman arm from the steering gear box by loosening the nut that holds it in place and sliding it off towards the rear of the vehicle. 19. Reassemble the power steering system in the reverse order that it was disassembled. 20. Tighten all bolts and nuts securely to prevent leaks or damage during operation.
