Intended for AutoCAD Design Center, separate files are provided for schedule-10 and schedule-40, each containing a series of blocks that represent commonly used pipe sizes in three finishes: BLK (black), GLV (galvanized) and CHR (polished chrome). Within each block, a single piece of pipe is modeled as a 3D solid with an accuracy of .001" inside and out. A 2D line on its own layer provides a center-line path for attaching other objects, while another layer offers connection points centered at each end of the pipe. Model blocks are exactly 1" long for a very specific reason. If you work in inch units like I do, after inserting the block, don't explode it - simply set the z-scale value to the desired length in inches. It doesn't matter what plane it's on or how it's oriented. If you're unsure of the exact length, use the grip at the insertion point to place that end on one of your connecting points. Rotate the block from its base to point the other end toward your second point. Finally, use the "set by picking" tool from the z-scale field of the object properties to pick the points you want to connect and then click apply. Your pipe will be the perfect length. You can even export all these values for fabrication later if you like.
