WARNING!!! All the renders above except the first one reveal the inner workings of the puzzle box and contain spoilers! To tackle the challenge yourself as described below, please proceed with caution. Here's my entry for the Steampunk puzzle box competition! What makes my puzzle stand out is that the difficulty level can be effortlessly adjusted by the creator quite easily. With a simple tweak to the hints, the puzzle can be made more or less challenging depending on what player is attempting to solve it. To engage with different parts of the puzzle, users must physically rotate and tilt the entire box in order to examine the hidden clues etched onto the sides of each component. As a seasoned gamer, I've witnessed game developers implement creative techniques to guide players through gameplay without making it too simplistic or revealing the solution. Some games are often perplexing because they lack clear instructions. To overcome this hurdle, top-notch gaming companies employ color-coding, strategic lighting effects, and clever subliminal hints that discreetly assist players even when they're unaware of their impact. In my puzzle box design, as evident in the attached render, components that can be manipulated are deliberately colored silver to distinguish them from darker elements on the box. Similarly, the clues on how far these locks should turn are highlighted through distinct designs across the surface, allowing players to gain a clear understanding without having the solution given to them.My puzzle features 9 intricately designed "locks" that need to be turned in precise sequences to successfully unlock the box. The corresponding hints and clues guiding users on lock placement can be reconfigured to match existing puzzle patterns or rebranded into numbers for a more demanding experience, thereby catering to an array of player skill levels. An instance could involve redesigning current puzzles to solve algebraic equations or shifting symbols towards hidden markers that players would need to identify during their solution attempts. To interactively visualize and engage with the physical mechanism behind my Steampunk puzzle box design, I've uploaded 3 comprehensive files - a STEP model for in-depth structural exploration, an STL model allowing users to fabricate and build a real-life prototype, and SolidWorks CAD assembly for an immersive, hands-on experience. Upon opening this SolidWorks file using the included version or a later release, players can explore by turning components into different configurations by clicking "move component" and engaging collision detection across all elements, which will provide real-time interaction to test if your guesses were right, making adjustments where needed.Included as additional support, note that real time physics such as those simulated with collisions between puzzle components could become quite demanding in CPU processing, potentially leading to temporary slowdown. In case SolidWorks indicates a problem accessing this feature when applied in game mode within SolidWorks (move component and then hit enable collision for all parts) simply view wireframes or zoom in/out where appropriate, examine closely for the conflict. Although minor details may fail to load - specifically certain decorative elements atop puzzle parts visible through dome-like protrusions on one corner, as their positions are well-defined throughout and should remain unchanged unless moved during play; no special expertise beyond typical computer experience required if those hints get missed entirely while in practice.
