Steampunk Pocket Watch Cosplay Prop
thingiverse
I just scaled up the original design by 33% and rounded out its back to use it as a costume prop for an Alice in Wonderland themed Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The possibilities are endless, and I can envision using this design for various other costumes. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator (5th Generation) Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Resolution: High Infill: Default Post-Printing Colors I attempted to create a raw plastic multi-colored pocketwatch with detailed pieces from the original, but it proved impossible on my printer. I opted for a single print version in white instead. To smooth out the surface of my white plastic pocketwatch, I used a hobby knife and sandpaper. Then, I applied a gold coat using spray paint. A 13-year-old artist with patience and a small brush then painted the face of the watch. To preserve the paint, I sprayed a clear gloss enamel coat over it, which unfortunately dulled the gold finish. Nonetheless, you live and learn. Chain Using a real chain would add to the authenticity of this design. However, I used shiny gold elastic secured with a safety pin instead. The elastic was originally wrapped around a gift that I, being a pack rat, had received at some point. How I Designed This SketchUp I employed Sketchup to modify the rounded back and made minimal alterations. The STL mesh suffered from import issues in SketchUp. Netfabb Basic Due to my lack of patience, I did not manually repair the well-detailed model within Sketchup. Instead, I relied on Netfabb's Basic Repair tool to fix the STL file after exporting it from Sketchup.
