Steampunk Doorbell
thingiverse
Our old doorbell finally gave out, so I took matters into my own hands and created a brand new one from scratch. The bell itself came straight from Home Depot - it's a sleek, lighted LED doorbell that really sets the tone for our entranceway. I opted for the silver bezel, but in hindsight, gold might have been the better choice. Still, it wasn't exactly part of the original plan. To give my new doorbell that classic, time-worn look, I used Smoothon's XTC-3D after printing to cover up those unsightly layer lines. This epoxy resin has a unique ability to make any surface look like it's been lovingly hand-painted since 1877 - and that's exactly what I was going for. The "brass" accents, meanwhile, are achieved with a gold wax paste similar to Rub n' Buff. You can find these flat pucks at most craft stores. The back of the doorbell is also included, although it was designed specifically for our house. If you're feeling handy, you might be able to repurpose it for your own home - but I'm guessing you could probably come up with something even better. As a bonus, I've included a .obj file so you can tinker with the design to your heart's content. If you need it in another format, just let me know. I also used a model of the doorbell itself as reference when creating the 3D print - feel free to use it for your own projects.
