Steampunk color changing pendent
thingiverse
This LED color-changing pendant was designed for last year's SteamCon attire. It features an internal LED cycling through various hues, including purple, blue, red, green, and yellow. The circuit is simple, similar to installing a light bulb. The pendant can be worn as a brooch or necklace, although it isn't inherently steampunk-themed. Printing instructions are available for this project. To ensure successful printing, print another object alongside the pendant to allow layers to cool properly. The design includes bridges and light overhangs to maintain a lightweight structure with minimal internal shadows. Maintain low temperature during printing. A translucent plastic is recommended for the print to enable light transmission. A small drill is needed to create the top hole for necklace attachment. The LED used is a 3V color-changing type, sourced from a local store (Vetco) or available online (allelectronics.com). A CR2032 battery holder from SparkFun (sparkfun.com/products/8822) powers the pendant, with the light turning on/off by inserting/removing the battery. Battery life is approximately two weeks for noticeable fade and two months before LED failure.
