Steampunk Cabinet Latch

Steampunk Cabinet Latch

pinshape

This fully functional spring-loaded cabinet latch is designed for standard kitchen cabinet size doors and smaller. I used one on a BBQ cabinet, paired with the Steampunk Hinge also found here. The flexible PVC half-circle, visible about midway, provides long-lasting springiness. To achieve a glossy finish, mix acetone with copper powder and apply it using a small brush. Once dry, high-gloss polishing can be done with a brass Dremel brush or gentler tools. This design is printed in ABS at 0.3 mm resolution and finished with a coat of acetone mixed with copper powder, followed by polishing with Dremel tools. The latch uses #6 screws for fastening; if scaled to 80%, it will use #4 screws instead. I anticipate the copper powder will change color and turn green with humidity, which is the intended effect. Alternatively, simply paint it. Copper powder can be found on eBay.
