Steam Deck SSD hot-swap port
thingiverse
UPDATE: I would not recommend this modification at this time. The Deck has limited output power capabilities through the USB-C port preventing most SSDs from having adequate power to operate on. It may be possible to configure the OS to provide the needed power range to operate but something that is unadvised from what I can tell. I've only made this little adapter out of necessity, being that I couldn't find anything similar. I've place it in the best possible position I could identify with that allows for ventilation, docking and a minimalistic profile. Required hardware: * USB C Sata adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZPKNQYW * Two M1.6x12mm flat head screws: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BGJLYRPD * Two SSD mounting screws Optional: * USB C female to USB 3.1 male adapter for docking station. I am currently using this USB 2.0 adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085VT1VJT I used an x-acto knife on the original adapter to remove the outer cover and most of the protective epoxy surrounds the PCB. Some of the cable protection was also trimmed so that it could fit a bit more snug. Some cons to consider: * Unknown longevity and durability. * Compromised storage of analog sticks in original case. * Additional conductive heat generated by the SSD. * Additional power requirement. I won't provide any guidance on how to partition or mount the SSD on the software side of things, but here is a link to a video that is relevant enough on that topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMP62KCErDU Areas I may looking to improve upon unless a better solution becomes available: * Addition of a wire clamp. * Edge Smoothing. * Identify a solution for storage that wouldn't compromise the analog sticks. * Use of soldering and hot glue to change cabling. * Identify a suitable USB C splitter for 90 degree connection and possible USB C passthrough power. * Benchmarking Cheers!
