Steadyrest for Sherline Lathe (WIP)
thingiverse
This plastic steady rest is recommended for light machining only due to its flexibility compared to metal counterparts. A user tested a printed CNC accessory, noting that v0.7 features mainly fixes from previous issues. Printed with solid settings at 0.2 layer height in ABS, the steady rest exhibited enough flex for light work. The required materials include brass blades, socket head cap screws, stainless washers, and nuts. The mount requires a 10-32 or 10-24 x 2 1/2 socket head cap screw and nut, matching dimensions. Printing is recommended solid at 0.2mm layer height. OpenSCAD coding is still being improved, with some parameters left non-parametric. A Frame_Cutout option allows work access from the side, but it weakens the part and has been discontinued in uploaded STLs.
