Locality: Spain Size: Two centimeters by one point five centimeters by seven-tenths of a centimeter Formula: Fe(II)2Al9Si4O23(OH) Description: Staurolite is a reddish-brown to black mineral that crystallizes in the monoclinic system, having resinous to vitreous luster. Also known as cross-stone; fairy stone; grenatite; staurotide. From Greek stauros, meaning cross, alluding to its cruciform twins.
