Staurolite [(Fe,Mg)₂(Al,Fe)₉O₆[(Si,Al)O₄]₄(O,OH)₂] emerges as a metamorphic ferromagnesian silicate mineral solidly rooted in the monoclinic crystal system. It originates under remarkably high pressure and extremely hot conditions. Typically, it manifests itself as intertwined twins, like this specimen on display. The larger of these two crystals measures approximately 18 mm in length.
