Statuette of Carpo, Horae of Autumn
myminifactory
The statuette is a remarkable piece that showcases Carpo, the goddess responsible for bringing forth sustenance, guarding the path to Mount Olympus and controlling the clouds surrounding it when one of the gods departed. She served as an attendant to Persephone, Aphrodite, and Hera, while also being closely associated with Dionysus, Apollo, and Pan. The statuette discovered in a vineyard near Vesuvius appears almost entirely preserved. However, its head dates back to ancient times, was attached and modified by Bartolomeo Cavaceppi. After 1830 the Horae was displayed on the upper floor of the Altes Museum's rotunda for public viewing.
