Aphrodite dominated as the supreme Olympian goddess of love, captivating beauty, sensual pleasure and procreation. Beautifully envisioned as a stunning woman, she frequently walked alongside the winged godling Eros (Love), her devoted companion. Her symbolic attributes consisted of a dove, an apple, a scallop shell and a mirror. In classical sculpture and fresco, Aphrodite was nearly always depicted in her natural state, unencumbered by clothing.
