Statuette of a Female Dwarf and Baby
sketchfab
This diminutive ancient Egyptian statuette portrays a young woman cradling an infant against her hip. Crafted from a single block of wood, the piece was originally set into a separate base. Although its precise purpose is unclear, it likely carried symbolic significance for mothers and children to protect. The object was unearthed by John Garstang in Abydos' tomb 352 and dates back to the late 12th or early 13th Dynasty of Egypt's Middle Kingdom era. Comparable examples can be found at the Neues Museum, which houses one Middle Kingdom example (accession number ÄM 14517) and two Predynastic examples (ÄM 14441 and ÄM 17600).
