Seti I, second king of Dynasty 19, was a powerful ruler who actively worked towards establishing his dynasty and restoring Egypt's influence among its neighbors. His military campaigns in the Levant were highly successful, and the exterior walls of the massive hypostyle hall he built at Karnak are adorned with vivid battle reliefs that tell the story of his conquests. Seti I also aggressively reopened the gold mines in the eastern desert and Nubia, exploiting their rich resources to fuel Egypt's growth. He constructed a magnificent mortuary temple for himself at Abydos, which features an impressive kinglist carved into its walls, as well as a beautiful mortuary temple at Thebes that showcases his architectural prowess. In the Valley of the Kings, Seti I built one of the most stunning tombs ever created there, demonstrating his exceptional artistic taste and sense of grandeur. This kneeling statue of the king depicts him making offerings to Osiris and was likely intended for his temple at Abydos, where it would have served as a powerful symbol of his devotion to the gods. The high artistic standards evident in Seti I's reliefs are also reflected in this statue, which bears a striking resemblance to earlier kings of Dynasty 18 like Thutmose III.
