The artwork most probably portrays Poseidon and Delphin. Poseidon was the Olympian god of the sea, earthquakes, floods, droughts, and horses. He is typically depicted as an older man with a robust physique and dark beard holding a trident, a three-pronged fishing spear. Delphin was a dolphin-shaped sea demon serving the god Poseidon. When his master pursued Amphitrite, a Nereid, she fled, and Delphin was sent to locate the nymphs and persuade her to accept the marriage proposal. For his loyalty, Poseidon placed the dolphin among the stars as the constellation Delphinus.
