This is a sculpture of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu in Hindu mythology. As a brahmin born into a Kshatriya-like world, Parshuram embodied characteristics of both castes, earning him the title of Brahmin-Kshatriya. He possessed the fierce traits of a Kshatriya warrior, including aggression, warfare and bravery. Like other avatars of Vishnu, he was prophesied to emerge during a time when evil had gained the upper hand on earth. The powerful Kshatriyas, armed with weapons and authority, had begun to exploit their power, taking what belonged to others by force and oppressing innocent people. Parashurama took action to restore balance in the universe by defeating these ruthless Kshatriya warriors.
