Statue of Liberty maquette

This is a 3D representation of a bronze casting made from Frederic Auguste Bartholdi's maquette for the Statue of Liberty. After completing the Statue of Liberty, Bartholdi would occasionally commission French foundry Thiebaut Freres to create a bronze casting from his original maquette. These castings were typically given as gifts to friends and are now highly sought after by collectors. A modern bronze copy of one of these sculptures is displayed in the museum inside Fort Wood beneath the Statue of Liberty. I was fortunate enough to have access to one of these bronze sculptures, which I photographed extensively. I'm pleased with the resulting 3D model since the sculpture's dark and shiny surface presented a challenge to photograph and model accurately. A beautiful object to look at, but difficult to capture in photographs and models. To match the size of the original, this 3D model was scaled to roughly one meter in length. Upon close inspection, you'll notice that one of the rays on the left side of the crown is slightly bent backward, possibly due to a minor mishap during the casting process. I chose not to alter this feature, preferring to preserve the integrity of the original design.
