Shalmaneser III ruled Assyria for nearly four decades, a period marked by relentless military campaigns against neighboring tribes and nations. As the son of Ashurnasirpal II, he inherited a legacy of conquest and expanded his father's territorial gains with vigor and determination. His armies swept through Mesopotamia and Syria, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for dominance. The kingdoms of Hamath and Aram Damascus were forced to submit to Assyrian rule, while the Hittites of Carchemish paid a heavy price in tribute. Shalmaneser III's military prowess also extended into the Taurus Mountains and Lake Van, where his forces carved out a significant presence. Notably, it was during his reign that the Arabs and Chaldeans made their first recorded appearance on the historical stage, as documented in the annals of Shalmaneser III from around 850 BC.
