In Greek mythology, Eros was a renowned god of intense passion from the 4th century B.C. His Roman counterpart, Cupid, symbolized ardent desire. Some ancient tales depicted him as a primeval deity, while others portrayed him as the beloved son of Aphrodite. He was one of the winged gods associated with love, known as Erotes.
