Statue of dead Giant
myminifactory
This high relief depicts a colossal warrior fallen in combat with the naked body fully articulated in its anatomical structure, reclining on his back on an irregular oval base.\r\nIt is originally one of four statues (statue of the dying Gaul, statue of the dead Giant, statue of the dying Persian, statue of the fallen Amazon) created to commemorate the victories that Agrippa gained over the Galatians in 37 BC. The statues were placed in the Baths of Agrippa in Rome to celebrate those triumphs.\r\nThe statues, discovered in 1514, were initially owned by the Medici Orsini family and Margaret of Austria; later they came into possession of the Farnese family. The underlying theme revolves around four battles, two mythical ones (Gigantomachy and Amazonomachy) and two historical ones (the battle of Marathon between the Persians and the Athenians and the conflict between the Attalids and the Galatians).\r\n \r\nThis item is part of "Scan The World".
