This iconic statue of a granitic gneiss Amun in the form of a protective ram stood watch over King Taharqa at the Temple of Amun in Kawa, Nubia. It was built by Pharaoh Taharqa himself, who initiated construction in 683 BC, marking a significant milestone in ancient Egyptian architecture. As one of the sacred animals revered by Amun, the ram has been immortalized in various temple statues, including those at Karnak, often depicted as either a standalone figure or with the head of a powerful sphinx.
