Pope Julius II, also known as "The Fearsome Pope" and "The Warrior Pope," was born Giuliano della Rovere on December 5, 1443. He served as the head of the Catholic Church from November 1, 1503, until his death in 1513. During his papacy, Julius II pursued an aggressive foreign policy, oversaw ambitious construction projects, and invested heavily in the arts. One notable example is his commissioning of Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. He also led troops into battle on multiple occasions, earning a reputation as a skilled military leader.
