In 1888, archaeologists uncovered this statue within the grounds of the Olympian Zeus temple. Its right arm would have been raised, holding some object in a tight grasp. One interpretation suggests that this sculpture represents the "Splachnoptes," a bronze work created by Cypriot artist Styppax during the latter half of the 5th century B.C. According to Plinius' account, this statue depicted a young boy poised on the brink of roasting entrails as part of a sacrifice, while simultaneously attempting to ignite a flame with his breath.
