This enigmatic sculpture was unearthed on January 31st 1997 by the Department of Antiques during conservation work on two royal tombs at ancient Tamassos's royal necropolis. The lion figure, with its tongue hanging loose, reveals a complex symbol that transcends cultures and eras. In some antiquated societies, a tongue-out gesture was used as a greeting to assure others of one's benevolent nature and demon-free status.
