The restored head is attributed to Antonio Canova, while the right hand was completed by Luigi Zandomeneghi after 1796. The statue formed part of Marco Foscarini's collection - he served as Doge of Venice in 1763 - and was purchased by Gaetano Pinali in 1817. It sat on display in his mansion near Porta Leoni in Verona before being donated to the city in 1844.
