I designed this custom phone holder specifically for my Giant ATX bike, which I've converted into a stationary bike using the Wahoo Kickr system. To build this mount, I incorporated some clever design elements from other projects that impressed me with their ingenuity. However, I had to modify them to work seamlessly with my iPhone 8 Plus case, as they didn't integrate well with my phone's operating system. To ensure a snug fit, I oversized the holder to accommodate the dimensions of my iPhone 8 Plus case, which measures 80.5mm x 167mm. Since I prefer not to remove my protective case each time I ride, I opted for a design that allows the phone to sit comfortably inside the holder without any hassle. For added stability and security, I used M5 bolts (not screws) measuring 40mm in length, along with two standard M5 nuts. These components provide a sturdy foundation for the mount, allowing it to withstand the rigors of indoor cycling. It's worth noting that this custom phone holder is designed primarily for casual use, focusing on control and monitoring during my rides rather than withstanding the demands of road or mountain biking. As such, I've built it to be durable but not overly robust. When removing the mount from the bike bed, please exercise caution to avoid any damage.
