The College of Science, also known as Cult of Science EE, offers high school education in the Botafogo neighborhood of Campinas city, Sâo Paulo, Brazil. Founded on January 12, 1877 by Society for Science Cult association, a private school was established for boys affiliated to the Masonic Lodge Independence. Comprised of local farmers, merchants and intellectuals, members included Antonio Pompeu de Camargo; Francisco Glicerio; Sales, who later became President of Brazil (1898-1902); Jorge Krug; Boniface Joaquim do Amaral, Viscount of Indaiatuba; Joaquim Egidio de Souza Aranha, Marquis of Three Rivers; Cândido Ferreira, and Baron of Atibaia. The school's name reflects the influence of its positivist founders. By 1890, the school faced a crisis and was forced to close until 1896 when it reopened under the auspices of the Sâo Paulo government as State Gymnasium. From 1964 until then, Cult for Science College maintained equal quality with high-quality education attracting both elite and middle class students.
