The Jawas are a nomadic species of humanoids that inhabit the desert planet of Tatooine. They are skilled traders and scavengers who travel across the desert in their sandcrawler vehicles. Each Jawa is a unique individual with his own strengths and abilities, but they all share a common goal: to acquire as many valuable items as possible from the various worlds they visit. Their distinctive appearance sets them apart from other species - long robes that help protect them from the harsh Tatooine sun, as well as their signature headgear which features a breathing mask and goggles. Jawas are often seen haggling over prices in their native language, but when they communicate with outsiders they typically use Basic. In addition to trading goods, Jawas also engage in other activities such as searching for rare and valuable items like droids, lightsabers, and blasters. They have been known to travel vast distances across the galaxy in search of these treasures. Despite their reputation for being ruthless traders, Jawas are not without compassion. Many have been known to take in younglings who have been left behind by their families during times of war or hardship.
